An NZX listed global business involved in the franchising of coffee houses under the Esquires brand. Its principal trading markets are in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The Challenge

Growing an international business in the franchising sector from what was effectively a startup operation in 2013 comprising a number of disparate business operations.

The Result

The company has evolved over time and rationalised its core business model as it has met various challenges associated with a global business involved in multiple markets and some difficult trading environments.

During his tenure as the CFO for the company Craig played a key role in guiding the business through multiple challenges including:

  • • The development of a Regional Franchisor structure in the UK market.
  • • The management and resolution of a product contamination issue relating to a manufacturing subsidiary in an important Asian market.
  • • The divestment and disposal of local and overseas businesses to focus on core activities.
  • • Delivering local market audited consolidated financial statements, including several years where specific and major hurdles had to be overcome to achieve this outcome.
